DUBUQUE, Iowa - The U.S. National Under-18 Team outshot Dubuque by a 35-22 margin, but could not convert shots to goals in an 8-2 loss Sunday afternoon at Mystique Community Ice Center.
Jeremy Wilmer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) put Team USA on the board just under 5 minutes into the second period. Logan Cooley (West Mifflin, Pa.) found Wilmer alone in front of the net, where the Boston University commit deked and tucked in a forehand shot for his 11th score of the season.
Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) potted his fifth goal in four games for the U18s' second marker of the night. Jacob Martin (Eagle River, Wis.) drove the net and dropped the puck for Lucius, who fired short-side for the final goal of the game.
Dubuque netted four first-period goals to take a commanding lead into the first break.
After Wilmer got Team USA on the board, the Fighting Saints scored twice more in the second, including a completion of a hat-trick from Matthew Savoie.
Dubuque pushed across another pair of goals in the third period before Lucius scored for the 8-2 final.
The U18s return home in the next matchup against the Fighting Saints. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at USA Hockey Arena. Tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the USA Hockey Arena box office at 734-453-6400.
