Nazar finishes weekend with six points

PLYMOUTH, Mich.  – Five different skaters notched goals as the U.S. National Under-17 Team completed its series sweep of Shattuck-St. Mary's, defeating the Sabres, 5-2, Saturday evening at USA Hockey Arena.

Frank Nazar III (Mount Clemens, Mich.) totaled six points across the two-game set to lead the U.S. scoring effort.

Isaac Howard (Hudson, Wis.), one of three Shattuck alumni on the U17s roster, netted his 52nd point of the season to open the scoring for the U.S., firing a centering pass from Nazar bar-down past Sabres goaltender Tyler Krivtsov to take a 1-0 lead 6:29 into the first period.

Shattuck responded moments later to even the score, but Charlie Stramel (Rosemount, Minn.) regained the lead for the U.S. off a 2-on-1 play with Cruz Lucius (Grant, Minn.). The 6-3 forward collected the pass from Lucius before slipping the puck in behind Krivtsov to make it a 2-1 game.

Shattuck alum Maddox Fleming (Rochester, Minn.) finished off the first period scoring, tapping in his own rebound to give the U.S. a 3-1 advantage heading into the first break.

Shattuck pulled within a goal to start the second period, but Nazar took a no-look pass from Howard and slotted a shot past Krivtsov to reclaim Team USA's two-goal buffer.

The U.S. dominated the play in a mostly quiet final stanza, outshooting the Sabres 14-4.

On loan from the U.S. National Under-18 Team, Jack Devine (Glencoe, Ill.) secured a 5-2 victory for the U.S. with 5:24 to play in the period, taking a pass from Devin Kaplan (Bridgewater, N.J.) and firing the puck top shelf to round out the scoring.

In his fifth game for the U17s, Cameron Korpi (South Lyon, Mich.) stopped 20 shots to earn the win in goal.
