Casey, Fleming, Lucius score in 3-0 victory

UTICA, N.Y. – Seamus Casey (Estero, Fla.) and Maddox Fleming (Rochester, Minn.) notched their second goals of the series, and Cruz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) potted seventh goal of the season to help the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a 3-0 win over Utica College Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.

Despite a pair of chances from Frank Nazar III (Mount Clemens, Mich.) and Logan Cooley (West Mifflin, Pa.), neither team could capitalize in the opening frame, settling for a 0-0 tie heading into the first intermission.

Box Score

Outshooting the Pioneers, 16-5, in the second period, the U.S. broke through on the power play when Casey put away a rocket from the point as time on the man advantage was expiring to make it a 1-0 game.

Cruz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) extended the U.S. lead to 2-0 at the 12:21 mark of the third period, crashing the crease to bury a loose rebound from a Seamus Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) shot.

Less than thirty seconds later, Fleming netted his second goal of the series to secure a 3-0 win for the U.S.

Kaidan Mbereko (Aspen, Colo.) made 26 saves to earn the shut out for the U.S.

The U17s return to action on Sunday with a matchup against Elmira College. Puck drop is slated a 3 p.m. start.
