TEMPE, Ariz. - Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) scored his third goal of the weekend but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Arizona State Sun Devils, 2-1, Saturday night at Oceanside Ice Arena.
Pastujov connected on the man advantage with 5:01 remaining in regulation to cut into the Sun Devils' lead. Luke Hughes (Canton, Mich.) assisted on the goal to give both skaters four-point weekends over the two games.
The U18s sustained offensive zone pressure and got three shots on net after they pulled Gibson Homer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) for an extra attacker late in regulation, but couldn't find the tying tally to force overtime.
Homer was fantastic in net for Team USA, making his second start in as many nights. The 6-foot-5 netminder finished with 27 saves on the game.
Arizona State scored in the game's opening two minutes and then Dominic Garcia added what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 13:31 of the final period.
Team USA finished with a 32-29 shots on goal advantage.
The U18s get an extended break as they return to the ice February 19 to host the Chicago Steel at USA Hockey Arena.
