PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) scored for the ninth consecutive game, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Youngstown Phantoms, 5-2, Saturday night at Covelli Centre.
Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) got Team USA on the board with a power-play goal at 6:41 of the third period. On a 5-on-3 advantage, Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) centered a feed from the right circle that Duke knocked in to cut the Phantoms lead to 3-1. Luke Hughes (Canton, Mich.) collected an assist on Duke's 19th of the season.
Youngstown got out to a 3-0 lead after two periods of play with goals from Grant Hindman, Jaden Grant and Mike Brown.
After Duke scored to cut the lead to two, Grant answered with his second of the game.
Defenseman Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) connected on a second-chance opportunity to make it a 4-2 game late in the third. Aidran Hreschuk (Long Beach, Calif.) took the first shot that was blocked in front and the puck scooted out to Gallagher, who one-timed it from the left circle for his seventh goal of the year.
The Phantoms added an empty-netter for the 5-2 final.
The U18s and Phantoms will square off for the third time this weekend tomorrow afternoon in Ohio.
