Hreschuk nets two points including first goal of season in win

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The U.S. National Under-18 Team used five different goal scorers, including Aidan Hreschuk's (Long Beach, Calif.) first tally of the season, to skate past the Youngstown Phantoms by a 5-2 final Sunday afternoon at Covelli Centre in Ohio.

Ryan St. Louis (Riverside, Conn.) opened the game's scoring at 11:36 of the first period to give Team USA a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Aidan Hreschuk (Long Beach, Calif.) circled behind the Phantoms cage and flipped a pass to St. Louis down the left wing. The Northeastern University commit's centering feed bounced off a Phantoms player and into the net for his eighth goal of the season. Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) collected the secondary helper on the score.

Box Score

Youngstown netted the first two goals of the second period from Bennet Zmolek and Ben Schoen to take a 2-1 lead but Team USA answered with a pair before the buzzer.

Defenseman Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) evened the game when he charged the net and finished off a pretty feed by Sean Behrens (Barrington, Ill.) from the center-slot. Caden Brown (St. Louis, Mo.) picked up an assist on the game-tying goal.

Hreschuk netted his first goal of the season to give Team USA a 3-2 lead with a second-chance opportunity at 11:52 of the second period. Andre Gasseau (Garden Grove, Calif.) took the initial shot but Hreschuk collected the rebound and fired home to restore the U18s' lead. Liam Gilmartin (Falls Church, Va.) picked up an assist on the goal.

Red Savage (Scottsdale, Ariz.) doubled the American advantage with a close-area goal as less than four minutes remained in regulation. Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) took the first shot that was saved before Savage followed with his fifth score of the season. Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) picked up his first point of the night with an assist on the goal.

Luke Hughes (Canton, Mich.) found a loose puck in the defensive-zone corner and flipped a shot the length of the ice for a shorthanded empty-net tally and the 5-2 final.

Team USA netminder Gibson Homer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) turned aside 15 Phantoms shots as he picked up his eighth win of the season.

The U18s finish up their two-game road trip tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the NAHL's Johnstown Tomahawks. Puck drop is slated for 12:00 p.m. ET from 1st Summit Arena in Johnstown.
