Team USA improves to 3-1 in Kroger College Series

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After falling a goal behind in the first period, the U.S. National Under-18 Team rallied to defeat the Air Force Falcons, 3-1, Sunday night at Cadet Ice Arena.

Goaltending stole the show for the first 20 minutes of the series finale, and despite some great opportunities, including two power plays, the U.S. was unable to find the back of the net early.

The Falcons managed to get on the board on the power play with 4:10 to play in the frame, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Following the goal, Kaidan Mbereko (Aspen, Colo.) shutdown the Falcons in his home state.

Team USA looked destined to go into the second intermission without a goal, until Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) scored his first goal of the season from the right point, past a stickless goalie on Air Force with just 57 seconds left on the clock.

That momentum from Gallagher in the second carried into the final frame as the U18 squad tallied two more goals in the third. The first goal came from Jeremy Wilmer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), who put in his 6th goal of the season off a deflection from Ethan Straky (Ormond Beach, Fla.) just three minutes into the final period.

Justin Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored his second goal, and fourth of the season, this weekend with an empty-netter in the final seconds to seal the victory for Team USA.

The U18s next game will take place on Wednesday, December 16 as they face off against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed live on HockeyTV.
