U17s Sweep Jets With 9-3 Win

Chesley, Nazar III lead scoring effort

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – A balanced offense led to a frenzy of goals as the U.S. National Under-17 Team trounced the Janesville Jets, 9-2, to earn a weekend sweep Saturday afternoon at USA Hockey Arena. 

Ryan Chesley (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Frank Nazar III (Mount Clemens, Mich.) led the scoring effort for the U.S. with a pair of goals, and Logan Cooley (West Mifflin, Pa.), Cutter Gauthier (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Devin Kaplan (Bridgewater, N.J.), Cruz Lucius (Grant, Minn) and Rutger McGroarty (Lincoln, Neb.) also found thee back of the net. 

Lucius opened the scoring for the U.S. 1:30 into the first period after picking up a pass from Tyler Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) in the neutral zone and firing a shot past Jets goaltender Owen Millward for the score.

The U.S. scored four unanswered goals before the Jets broke through to make it a 4-1 game, but Nazar and Cooley each lit the lamp to give the U17s a comfortable 6-1 lead heading into the first intermission. 

A quieter middle frame followed, with just one goal coming off the stick of Chesley, who corralled a feed from Jimmy Snuggerud (Chaska, Minn.) and fired a wrist shot from the left circle past netminder Riley Sims to extend the U.S. lead to 7-1. 

The Jets notched two goals in the third period, but the U.S. responded with a pair of their own tallies to keep the game out of reach. 

Dylan Silverstein (Calabasas, Calif.) made 26 saves in goal for the U.S.
