JANESVILLE, Wis. – Despite outshooting the Janesville Jets, 43-24, the U.S National Under-17 dropped a 5-4 decision to the Jets in a shootout Friday night at Janesville Ice Arena.

Devin Kaplan (Bridgewater, N.J.) got things started for the U.S. with a pair of goals in the first period.  Off the face off, Ryan Chesley (Mahtomedi, Minn.) took a shot from the top of the right circle that was blocked by a Janesville defender. The 6-0 defenseman then picked up the rebound and skated the puck to the goal line before slotting a pass across the face of goal to Kaplan who was waiting to fire home Team USA's first goal of the night.

The Jets evened the score moments later, but Kaplan put away his second of the night on a tic-tac-toe play on the power play with less than a minute to play in the first period to give the U.S. a 2-1 advantage. Tyler Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) fed pass from the circle to Isaac Howard (Hudson, Wis.) who found an unmarked Kaplan at the back door of the net who easily buried a shot past Jets goalie Owen Millward.

The Jets opened the scoring in the second period to knot the game up at 2-2, but Charlie Stramel (Rosemount, Minn.) picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and stickhandled past a Janesville defender before firing on goal. The initial shot ricocheted off Millward, but Stramel grabbed the rebound to pot Team USA's third goal of the night.

The Jets once again opened the scoring in the final frame to make it a 3-3 game before taking a 4-3 lead with under 10 minutes to play in regulation.

The U.S. forced overtime thanks to some aggressive defense from Charlie Leddy (Fairfield, Conn.) who poke checked the puck from a Jets skater at the blue line on the transition. The puck landed on Howard's stick who beat Millward stick-side to grab his team-leading 14th goal. The tally also extended the Wisconsin native's scoring streak to six straight games.

Following a back-and-forth extra period, the U.S. fell to the Jets in a shootout.

Dylan Silverstein (Calabasas, Calif.) made 20 stops in net for the U17s.
