U17s stay undefeated in league play

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Isaac Howard (Hudson, Wis.) netted a hat trick and twelve different players found themselves on the scoring sheet as the U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 10-6, at their return to USA Hockey Arena.

Ryan Chesley (Mahtomedi, Minn.) opened the scoring 55 seconds into the contest. Chesley collected a pass from Rutger McGroarty (Lincoln, Neb.) and skated down the left wing side before wristing it glove side.

Team USA doubled their lead midway through the first when Tyler Boucher (Haddonfield, N.J.) found the loose puck in the crease. Muskegon would answer back with two goals fifteen seconds apart from Cameron Berg and Alex Gagne.

Boucher responded for the U.S. as the Boston University commit scored off a cross-crease pass from Justin Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.). With 30 seconds left in the opening frame, Muskegon tied the game with the sixth goal of the period.

Highlights

The U17s got back on the scoring sheet when Frank Nazar (Mount Clemens, Mich.) made a goal line pass to Lane Hutson (Barrington, Ill.). Hutson was able to pull Muskgeon’s Christian Stoever out of the crease far enough to sneak the puck around his right pad.

Howard scored two goals less than a minute apart to extend the Team USA lead to 6-3.

Muskegon’s John Farinacci answered back before the end of the second. After being outshot 11-8 in the first, Team USA put up 14 to Muskegon’s five in the middle frame.

The third period was all Team USA as McGroarty let a shot go from the top of the right-wing circle on the power play. Soon after, Howard found the back of the net for the third time in the game and seventh in eight games. Nazar scored his third of the season minutes later on a breakaway.

Both Team USA and Muskegon found the back of the net once more before the final buzzer.

U17 goaltender Dylan Silverstein (Calabasas, Calif.) picked up his sixth win in as many decisions as he turned away 28 Muskegon shots.
