PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Andre Gasseau (Garden Grove, Calif.) netted his third and fourth goals of the season, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Adrian Bulldogs, 5-3, Saturday evening at Arrington Ice Arena.
After Connor May opened the game's scoring for Adrian, Gasseau got the U18s on the board with his first of the night. Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) jostled with the Bulldogs defense for possession and slid a pass to Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) coming down the left wing. Duke drew the goaltender towards him before shifting a pass over to Gasseau to tie the game.
The Bulldogs' Nick Lund gave Adrian a 2-1 lead at the 3:29 mark of the middle frame.
Gasseau answered with his second tally of the night. Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) made the extra-effort play to keep possession in the offensive zone. He moved the puck to Tyler Boucher (Haddonfield, N.J.) who found Gasseau in front for a backhand shot and score.
Adrian's Trevor Coykendall gave the Bulldogs their third lead of the game with his first goal of the season at 8:45 of the 2nd.
The Team USA response came from Boucher, who fired a quick wrist-shot from the center-slot for his sixth goal in as many games this season. Ryan St. Louis (Riverside, Conn.) and Jack Hughes collected the assists on the goal that tied the game at 3-3.
Zach Goberis netted the go-ahead goal early the final frame and added another late on an empty net to give Adrian a 5-3 win.
The U18s are back in action next weekend when they travel to Iowa to take on the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday evening.
