UFA, Russia- The U.S. National Under-17 Team remained undefeated at their Five Nations tournament with a 5-4 overtime win against Finland this morning (Feb. 7).
Jack Devine (Glencoe, Ill.) opened scoring for Team USA, netting his third goal in as many games, at 3:53 of the first period. Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) picked up the lone assist.
After Finland evened the game, 1-1, Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) tallied his 30th goal of the year and gave Team USA a 2-1 lead. Lucius sent the puck in on the backhand at the 8:28 mark.
Two minutes later, Jeremy Wilmer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) pushed in a rebound and gave the U17s a 3-1 lead. Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) and Luke Hughes (Manchester, N.H.) picked up the assists.
Jack Hughes corralled the puck and put it into the back of the net at 16:41 of the middle frame, giving the U17s a 4-1 lead.
Finland scored three consecutive to tie to game with 2:52 left in regulation and sent the game to overtime.
Lucius ended the game 38 seconds into overtime with his second goal of the game, after converting a two-on-one with Justin Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.).
Gibson Homer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) made 22 saves in the win and Lucius was named the Player of the Game.
