U17s Fall in Overtime, 6-5

Martin, Murchison, Duke all tally two points

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO- The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Youngstown Phantoms tonight in overtime, 6-5.

Roman Schmidt (Midland, Mich.) opened scoring, sending the puck to the back of the net from the right dot on the power play.  Ty Murchison (Corona, Calif.) and Sean Behrens (Barrington, Ill.) picked up the assists on the goal.

Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) gave the U17s an early 2-0 lead less than 30 seconds later after he sent the puck over the goaltender’s shoulder.  Jacob Martin (Eagle River, Wis.) and Liam Gilmartin (Falls Church, Va.) had the helpers.

Murchison netted his first USHL goal at the 5:47 mark of the second period with a wrister from the slot. Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) picked up his first assist of the night and Martin tallied his second.

Youngstown answered midway through the second period with two quick goals of their own to cut Team USA’s lead to 3-2 at 8:54 of the second period.

Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) netted his team-leading 27th goal after finishing a 2-on-1 with Duke to make it a 4-2 at 10:38.

Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) extended the U17s lead with help from Duke 14 seconds later to give Team USA a 5-2 lead.

The Phantoms scored three third period power-play goals to send the game to overtime before netting the overtime-winner at the 2:03 mark.
