PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season, but the U.S. National Under-18 team dropped a close contest, 3-2, against the University of Wisconsin in the Kroger College Series on New Year’s Day.
Wisconsin opened the scoring six minutes into the first period when Dominick Mersch emerged with the puck after a scramble in the crease and buried a shot on the rebound.
Bordeleau answered for the U18s when he collected a backhand pass in the slot from Landon Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) and tied the contest at one midway through the first. Jacob Truscott (Port Huron, Mich.) collected the secondary assist on the goal.
Bordeleau kept the momentum going for the U18s when he sniped a shot off the goal post at 17:59 on the power play. Ty Smilanic (Denver, Colo.) and Truscott tallied assists on the score.
Sean Dhooghe and Jack Gorniak scored for the Badgers 53 seconds apart to give Wisconsin a 3-2 lead at 7:28 of the second period that they preserved for the rest of the game.
Future Badger Noah Grannan (Germantown, Wis.) turned aside 29 of the 32 shots he saw in a third-star of the game performance.
The U18s continue the Kroger College Series on Friday (Jan. 3) at 7 p.m. against the Boston University Terriers. Tickets for this game and all other games at USA Hockey Arena can be purchased at usahockeyntdp.com/tix or by calling 734-453-8400.
