U17s Drop 7-2 Decision at Green Bay

Team USA snaps 12-game win streak

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Roman Schmidt (Midland, Mich.) and Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) netted goals, but the U.S. Under-17 National Team fell to Green Bay, 7-2, on Tuesday night at the Resch Center.

This marks the first loss for Team USA in 12 USHL contests. The U17s had won 10 consecutive USHL tilts dating back to October 19.

Schmidt opened the scoring for Team USA 7:50 into the opening period. Schmidt corralled a feed from Sean Behrens (Barrington, Ill.) and ripped a shot from the blue line past netminder Gavin Enright. 

Tyler Paquette, Jake Schmaltz and McKade Webster scored three times for Green Bay in the final 4:18 of the frame as the Gamblers took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Green Bay extended its lead to 4-1 when Mason Lohrei converted with 9:16 remaining in the second stanza.

The Gamblers took a 6-1 lead in the final frame before Duke pushed home his own rebound with 6:16 remaining to make it 6-2.

Green Bay scored again with 3:17 to go to account for the 7-2 final.

Gibson Homer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished with 34 saves for Team USA.

The U17s return to action this Friday (Jan. 3) against the Sioux Falls Stampede at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. Puck drop in Sioux Falls is set for 8 p.m. ET and the contest will be streamed live on HockeyTV.com.
