The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Madison Capitols today (Dec. 1) on the road, 3-1. The win is the U17s eighth straight USHL win dating back to October, 19.
Red Savage (Scottsdale, Ariz.) opened scoring at 13:29 of the first period. The power-play goal was unassisted.
The Capitols evened the game, 1-1, early in the second period.
Jeremy Wilmer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) knocked the puck in after a bit of a scrum in front of the Capitols net. The eventual game-winner was Wilmer’s seventh of the year.
Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) added an empty net goal to seal the victory, 3-1 for Team USA.
Kaidan Mbereko (Aspen, Colo.) made 47 saves in the win.
The U17s are off next weekend before heading to Russia for their Four Nations tournament Dec. 13-15.
