Duke nets hat trick, tallies five points

MUSKEGON, Mich. – The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 8-6 tonight in Muskegon behind a hat trick and five points from Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio).

Duke opened scoring at the 38 second mark sending in a shot from the slot.

Caden Brown (St. Louis, Mo.) netted his third goal of the year at the 12:20 mark of the first with help from Duke and Jack Devine (Glencoe, Ill.).

Muskegon cut Team USA’s lead to, 2-1 after finishing off a rebound at the 16:35 mark of the first period.

After Muskegon tied it up at two, Liam Gilmartin (Falls Church, Va.) tapped the puck in at the right side of the net to give the U17s a 3-2 lead at 4:58 of the second.

Duke netted his second of the game before Muskegon got it back making it, 4-3. Brown picked up his second point of the game with the assist and Aidan Hreshcuk (Long Beach, Calif.) picked up the secondary.

The Lumberjacks evened the game, 4-4 at 12:07 of the second period.

Devine retook the lead for the U17s at 1:45 of the third period, pushing in the rebound off of Duke’s shot.

Muskegon tied the game once again at 6:33 of the third before Gilmartin netted his second of the game with help from Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) and Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.).

Duke finished the hat trick, and gave Team USA a 7-5 lead, at 8:41 of the third period.

Muskegon and Team USA’s Brown both netted goals in the final minute of the game for an 8-6 final.

Gibson Homer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Kaidan Mbereko (Aspen, Colo.) combined for 27 saves in the win.

The U17s are back in action after Thanksgiving on Saturday (Nov. 30) at Green Bay as they take on the Gamblers at 8 p.m. ET.
