U.S. National Under-17 Team To Open International Play

The U.S. National Under-17 Team Heads to Medicine Hat, Alta. to Compete in 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The U.S. National Under-17 Team from USA Hockey's National Team Development Program will head to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, this week to participate in the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The eight-team tournament will begin Saturday (Nov. 2) and runs through Nov. 9.

Along with the U.S., participating teams will include, Canada Red, Canada Black, Canada White, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Russia.

“We’re excited about the team we’re bringing to Canada for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge,” said John Wroblewski, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. “This is the Under-17 Team’s first international experience, they’re excited and we know they’ll represent the U.S. extremely well.”

The U.S. will play a pre-tournament game against Canada Red on Thursday (Oct. 31) with faceoff set for 7 p.m. MT, before formally opening play in the event against the Czech Republic on Sunday (Nov. 3) at 3 p.m.

The U.S. has advanced to the championship game of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in six of the last 10 seasons and won five titles in the event's history (2001, 2002, 2010, January 2014, 2017).
