U17s Drop Home Opener Against Muskegon

Two sides to complete home-and-home set tomorrow in Muskegon

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Defenseman Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) scored his fourth goal of the season but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell in its home opener to the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 8-1, Friday evening at USA Hockey Arena. The two sides will battle again tomorrow night in Muskegon.

 

Gallagher's goal got Team USA on the board late in the second period when he converted on a one-timer at the bottom of the right face-off circle. Red Savage (Scottsdale, Ariz.) picked up the lone assist on the score with a feed from behind the Muskegon cage.

Highlights

The Lumberjacks got off to a quick start with four goals in the game's opening frame - three from Oliver MacDonald and the other from Dylan Gratton.

Muskegon added two more goals in the middle period before Gallagher's first USHL goal of the season got the U17s on the scoreboard. 

John Prokop and MacDonald's fourth of the game rounded out the scoring in the third period.

Goaltender Kaidan Mbereko (Aspen, Colo.) made 36 saves in net for Team USA.

The two teams will finish the home-and-home set tomorrow evening at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. ET.
