U18s Rally Late but Fall to Northern Michigan, 4-3

PLYMOUTH, MICH. - The U.S National Under-18 Team rallied late but fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats, 4-3 despite Thomas Bordelau (Houston, Texas) scoring his team-leading fifth goal in the first game of the NCAA College Series Sunday night at USA Hockey Arena.

The U18s made it 2-1 on the power play at 8:22 of the second period when Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored his second goal of the season when he finished a one-timer assisted by Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas) and Daniyal Dzhaniyev (Brooklyn, N.Y.)

The Wildcats scored late in the second period to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes.

Highlights

After an early third-period goal by the Wildcats, the U18s made it 4-2 when Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) deflected in an original shot from the point. Hunter McKown (San Jose, Calif.) and Jacob Truscott (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) collected the assists.

Team USA came within one goal when Bordeleau scored his fifth of the season on a rebound opportunity. Ty Smilanic (Denver, Colo.) and Landon Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) picked up the helpers on the tally. 

Noah Grannan (Germantown, Wisc.) collected 27 saves while the Wildcat duo of Nolan Kent and John Hawthorne tallied 25.
