Bordeleau and Peterson notch three points apiece in 11-8 win

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-18 team defeated the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 11-8, at L.C. Walker Arena, in what was the highest-scoring game in USHL modern history.

Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) and Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas) scored two goals apiece while Dylan Peterson (Roseville, Calif.) chipped in three assists as the team scored at least 11 goals for just the fifth time in program history.

Yoder started the game's scoring just over three minutes into the first period when he put home a rebound goal in front of the Muskegon cage. Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Zakary Karpa (Newport Beach, Calif.) picked up assists on the goal.

The Lumberjacks answered less than 90 seconds later when Daniil Gushchin picked up his first of two goals in the game.

Box Score

Team USA collected three more tallies before the end of the opening period as Bordeleau, Eamon Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Tyler Kleven (Fargo, N.D.) all were credited with their first goals of the season.

A seven-goal second period was kicked off by a nice wrist-shot from Yoder, his second score of the game. The 5-foot-11 forward picked up a rebound and picked the short-side high corner to make it 5-1.

Muskegon's Harrison Roy and Team USA's Daniyal Dzhaniyev (Brooklyn, N.Y.) traded goals in a 90-second span to make it a 6-2 contest within the period's opening four minutes.

The Lumberjacks closed the gap to within two, 6-4, as A.J. Hodges and Alex Gaffney scored within 27 seconds of each other.

Landon Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) converted a one-timer off a beautiful feed from Bordeleau behind the net to make it a 7-4 game at 12:48 of the second. Muskegon grabbed another goal to close the gap to within two once again before the close of the period.

The final 20 minutes saw another seven tallies between the two sides that started with Bordeleau's second of the day. The forward raced down the ice alone and finished with a huge slap-shot over the glove of Jack Williams.

The two teams traded goals back-and-forth for the remainder of the game as the score oscillated between a two- and three-goal affair. Jake Sanderson (Whitefish, Mont.), Owen Gallatin (Hugo, Minn.) and Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) all found their names in the goal column before the final buzzer.

The U18s will head to the USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pa. next weekend before kicking off its home schedule on October 5 against Northern Michigan at USA Hockey Arena . Tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
