U17s Fall to Johnstown Tomahawks, 6-4

U17s split series with Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team scored four goals, but fell to the Johnstown Tomahawks, 6-4, at Cambria County War Memorial Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Ethan Straky (Birmingham, Mich.) opened the scoring for Team USA at the 5:43 mark of the first period after collecting a rebound in front of the Johnstown net and firing a wrist shot into the far corner. 

Johnstown answered just 2:36 later to tie the contest at one.

Team USA answered in quick fashion when Jeremy Wilmer (Rockville Center, N.Y.) collected the puck in the offensive zone and found himself on a breakaway before beating the Johnstown goaltender to the glove side. Sean Behrens (Barrington, Ill.) picked up an assist on Wilmer's goal.

The Tomahawks found a way to answer late in the first period, scoring at the 19:17 mark to tie the game just before the first intermission. 

Johnstown came out quick to start the second period, scoring just 1:22 into the frame to take a 3-2 lead. The Tomahawks also added a fourth goal at the 6:54 mark to take the 4-2 lead.

Team USA answered just 1:26 after Johnstown's fourth goal off the stick of Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minnesota). After Lucius won the faceoff, Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) collected the puck and fed Lucius, who fired the puck home for his third goal in two contests. 

Johnstown added a fifth goal at the 16:15 mark of the second period and went into the second intermission holding a 5-3 lead. 

At the 6:05 mark of the third period, Johnstown scored its sixth goal of the contest to take the 6-3 lead.

Team USA scored its fourth goal of the game at the 8:14 mark off the stick of Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.). After collecting the puck at the point, Gallagher fired a shot on net that deflected over the goaltender and into the net. 

Team USA pulled its goalie for a sixth attacker near the end of the third period and generated chances, but could not find a way to add a fifth goal.
