U17s Drop to Cedar Rapids RoughRiders

U17s meet RoughRiders again tomorrow night (Saturday, March 15).

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Cedar RoughRiders 6-0, Friday night at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

The U17s record moves to 18-22-3-3 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and Team USA’s combined record in USHL play is now 25-18-2-4 (W-L-OTL-SOL).

 

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders tallied an early power-play goal 4:08 into the first period. At 6:26, Cedar Rapids extended its lead to 2-0.

At 1:11 into the second stanza, the RoughRiders registered another goal, leading 3-0. With 7:27 left in the middle period, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders moved the lead out to 4-0.

Team USA successfully killed off its one penalty but was unable to secure a goal in the second period.

With 6:26 left to go in the final stanza, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders registered its fifth goal of the game.

Closing out the night with a 6-0 victory, Cedar Rapids scored a final goal with 27 seconds left in regulation.

Noah Grannan (Norwell, Mass.) saved 31 of the 36 shots on net.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team returns to USHL play tomorrow, Saturday (March 16), facing the RoughRiders at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Puck drops at 8:05 p.m. ET.


NOTES: Team USA went 4-for-5 on the penalty kill and 0-for-5 on the power play … The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders outshot Team USA 37-9.
