Patrick Moynihan nets two goals in victory

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) netted two goals in the U.S. National Under-18 Team's 9-3 victory over the Lincoln Stars Saturday Night at the Ice Box.

The U18s' overall record improves to 35-12-2-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) with the victory. 

Domenick Fensore (Thornwood, N.Y.) opened the scoring 5:35 into play when he skated the puck up the ice and fired a shot past Lincoln netminder Samuel Hlavaj on the power play.,

Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) netted Team USA’s second power-play goal of the night when he capitalized off a feed from Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.), doubling the lead with 8:21 left in the first frame.

 

Box Score

John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) and Moynihan concluded the period with two goals 21 seconds apart around the three-minute mark, bringing the score to 4-0 Team USA entering the first intermission.

Hughes opened the second period with a goal 1:57 into play with the help of Michael Gildon (Plano, Texas) and Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.).

Judd Caulfield (Grand Forks, N.D. ) netted a goal 7:50 into the middle period when he banged home a loose puck off a Turcotte feed in the slot.

Moynihan tallied his second of the evening with a back-handed goal at 7:42 on the clock, giving the U18s a seven-goal lead entering the final stanza.

Lincoln got on the board early in the final period 26 seconds into play off a breakaway, tallying its first of the night.

Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) responded with a goal 6:54 into the frame off a feed from Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.) at the point.

Lincoln scored again at 9:53, but was followed by an Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) goal 14 seconds later.

The Stars concluded the scoring with 59 seconds remaining on the clock to account for the 9-3 final.

Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) made14 saves on 17 shots in the contest.

NOTES: The U18s outshot Lincoln 40-17, went 2-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
