U18s Shut Out Madison Capitols 11-0

Caufield and Moynihan each record hat tricks

MADISON, Wis. -- Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) recorded a shutout and Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) recorded four goals and an assist in the U.S. National Under-18 Team's 11-0 victory over the Madison Capitols Friday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.

Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) opened up the scoring 2:07 into play when he found the back of the net off of a bouncing puck out front.

Caufield scored his first of the night with 7:23 remaining in the first, before Moynihan netted his first of the night less than two minutes later, resulting in a Team USA three-goal lead entering the first intermission.

Just under a minute into the second stanza, Caufield tallied his second goal on the power play with a one-timer off a feed from Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.). 

Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) recorded a shorthanded goal 2:50 into the middle frame, unassisted, to increase the lead to 4-0.

Caufield completed his hat trick 5:15 into the second when he capitalized off a Marshall Warren (Laurel Hollow, N.Y) shot from the point.

Moynihan scored his second of the evening 1:05 later, assisted by Turcotte, before Caufield netted his fourth of the evening less than two minutes later.

Moynihan completed his hat trick with 5:46 to go in the second with a one-timer in the slot, bringing the score to 9-0 after 40 minutes.

Domenick Fensore (Thornwood, N.Y.) recorded a goal in the first minute of the final stanza, before Drew Helleson (Farmington, Minn.) concluded the scoring 8:44 into the frame, accounting for the 11-0 final.

Knight stopped all 21 shots faced to collect his first shutout of the season.

Team USA returns tomorrow facing the Capitols again at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 8:05 p.m. ET and can be streamed live on HockeyTV.com.

NOTES: Team USA outshot Madison 44-21, went 3-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
