WE'VE GOT THE POWER: Through six games played on the young season, the U.S. National Under-18 Team has recorded at least one power-play score in each contest.

The team is led by Ryan Leonard (Amherst, Mass.), who has netted three goals on the man advantage, while Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) has added a pair. Additionally, forwards Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.), Oliver Moore (Mounds View, Minn.), Alex Weiermair (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Austin Burnevik (Blaine, Minn.) have scored on the power play to bring the team's success rate to 26.5%.

As the U17 team last season, the group recorded an impressive 20.0% success rate and are looking to improve upon that for this campaign.

MASS. EFFECT: U18 forwards Ryan Leonard and Will Smith have gotten off to an incredibly fast start, as the two Massachusetts natives are  currently the only two skaters to reach double digit points through six games.

Leonard leads the team with seven assists and 12 total points while Smith follows right behind with a team-high six scores and 11 points.

With three points, including two goals, against Michigan State, and a third-period assist at Notre Dame, Smith is the lone NTDP skater to record a point in every game this season.

The two forwards were part of a group of five underagers who represented the U.S. at the 2022 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship in Germany last April, where the team won a silver medal.

WIDE MARGINS: The U.S. National Under-17 Team has yet to play a game with a narrow final goal differential.

The team traded 7-3 finals in Janesville, one win and one loss and followed at the NAHL Showcase with a 4-0 win and 7-0 defeat.

Last weekend, the U17s made their debut in the USHL, playing to an 8-3 loss on Friday before responding with a 6-3 win on Saturday, marking three goals as the closest margin of victory through six games played on the campaign.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: U17 defenseman Will Skahan (Woodbury, Minn.) had a great start to his USHL career as he picked up a power-play goal and added three assists over two games to take home USHL Defenseman of the Week honors.

Skahan charged the net Friday night and used a bounce off a Cedar Rapids defenseman to even the score up at three goals apiece early in the middle period.

On Saturday, the 6-foot-4 blueliner spurred James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) with a stretch pass late in the first period to put the U17s up 2-0. Skahan added a pair of assists in the second for his first career multi-point effort.

The Under-17 Team will be back in action next weekend as they make their home debut at USA Hockey Arena on Friday evening against the Chicago Steel.
