LAST TIME OUT: Eamon Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) tied the game and Owen Gallatin (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored the game-winner as the U.S. National Under-18 Team rallied in the third to beat the Youngstown Phantoms, 5-4, Thursday (Feb. 27) night at USA Hockey Arena.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team scored three third-period goals to force extra time, but fell to the Madison Capitols in a shootout, 5-4, today (March 1) at USA Hockey Arena.

WEEKLY AWARDS: U17 defenseman Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) picked up his first career USHL defenseman of the week honor after he posted a goal and three assists in two games played over the weekend. The blueliner picked up an assist on the lone Team USA goal Friday evening before a three-point performance Sunday afternoon, including the game-tying goal with 2:45 to play in regulation. Gallagher is the third Team USA player to win a weekly award after defenseman Daniel Laatsch (Altoona, Wis.) and forward Brett Berard (East Greenwich, R.I.) picked up honors earlier this season.

SCORING SHORTIES: Forward Tanner Latsch (Muskegon, Mich.) finished a beautiful spinning backhand shot to record a shorthanded goal in Thursday's 5-4 win over Youngstown. The win improved the U18s' record to 7-1-0 this season when scoring a shorthanded marker. The team has potted 10 goals when down a man and Matthew Beniers (Hingham, Mass.) leads the team with three on the season.

DANNY DOUBLE: Forward Daniyal Dzhaniyev (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his first career multi-goal game in Sunday's tilt against Madison. The 5-foot-4 scorer picked up a pair of third-period markers including a highlight-reel backhand finish to start Team USA's comeback attempt. Dzhaniyev set his career mark when he finished a back-door one-timer to cut the deficit to one goal. The Penn State commit is now riding a four-game point streak where he has recorded five total points (3g-2a).

QUINN FOR CALDER: Current Vancouver Canucks defenseman and former NTDP blueliner Quinn Hughes (University of Michigan; NTDP 2015-17) has recorded 10 points (0g-10a) over his last eight games to take over the NHL's points lead for all rookie skaters. Hughes' 51 total points (8g-43a) on the campaign are four more than Avalanche defender Cale Makar, who sits in second. Hughes has recorded 12 multi-point games this season, one multi-goal game and collected four points at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis earlier this year.
