HUGHES DEBUTS: The first overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, NTDP alum, Jack Hughes (NTDP: 2017-19) made his league debut on October 4 with the New Jersey Devils. Hughes was taken No. 1 by the Devils after scoring 74 goals at the NTDP and a record-setting 154 assists in his two years in Plymouth.

NHL STAR: Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs; NTDP: 2013-15) earned the NHL Third Star of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-6. Matthews had five goals in three games, including one game-winner for the Maple Leafs.

TKACHUK OPENS NHL SEASON: NTDP alum Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo., NTDP: 2015-17) opened his second NHL season scoring the first goal of the 2019-20 NHL season. The goal came in the Ottawa Senators first game of the season, against the the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tkachuk netted the goal 25 seconds into the game, setting a Senators record for the quickest goal scored in a season-opening game.

LAST TIME OUT: The U18s fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs Tuesday (Oct. 8) night for their third straight NCAA loss. The U18s fell in a pair of NCAA matchups at USA Hockey Arena, a 4-3 loss to Northern Michigan and a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the weekend.

Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season Saturday afternoon, while fellow forward Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) collected a late third-period goal to maintain his place atop the team's leading scorers. Tuch now has eight points (4g-4a) in five games played. 

Against the Irish on Sunday afternoon, Team USA got off to an early lead thanks to goals from Tanner Latsch (Muskegon, Mich.) and Dylan Peterson (Roseville, Calif.). After accumulating 29 points (8g-21a) last season, the score was Peterson's first of the 2019-20 campaign.

The U17s traveled to Iowa to take on the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for their first taste of USHL competition, losing a pair of games by 8-4 and 5-1 finals. Justin Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) paced the team with two goals and an assist over the weekend, pushing his season point total to 10 (6g-4a) in eight games played.

Forward Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) continued his fast-paced start with another goal, giving him 11 markers in eight games. Defensemen Aidan Hreschuk (Long Beach, Calif.) and Luke Hughes (Manchester, N.H.) rounded out the U17s scoring on the weekend.

TUCH IT IN:  Under-18 Team forward, Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) has recorded eight points in just five games played this season. The 6-foot-2 winger is already more than a third of the way to his 23 points (10g-13a) that he recorded last year.
