HISTORIC STREAK: NTDP alumni Patrick Kane’s point streak ended at 20 games on Sunday (Mar. 24), the first time that Kane did not put up a point since the Winter Classic. Kane’s point streak stands as the longest for any NHL players in the 2018-19 season. Within the 20-game run, Kane posted 17 goals and 26 assists.

Throughout the season, Kane has tallied points in 53 of 62 games played, and has only gone a total of two consecutive games without a point.

CHANCE FOR THE RECORD BOOK: NTDP alumni Jack Eichel sits one goal away from his fourth consecutive 20-goal season. Among players to debut with Buffalo, the Sabres leading scorer can join Richard Martin (1971-75) and Thomas Vanek (2005-09) as the only players in franchise history to begin their NHL career with four consecutive 20-goal seasons.

30 IN 3: Auston Matthews scored one of Toronto’s four second-period tallies to reach the 30-goal mark for the third time in as many NHL seasons (30-28—58 in 48 GP) and help the Maple Leafs defeat the Sabres.

Among players to debut with Toronto, Matthews became the first to score 30 or more goals in each of his first three NHL seasons all with the franchise. Wendel Clark (34 G in 1985-86, 37 G in 1986-87) and Daniel Marois (31 G in 1988-89, 39 G in 1989-90) are the only other Maple Leafs players to reach the 30-goal mark in each of their first two NHL seasons.

Matthews became the 10th different player in franchise history to score at least 30 goals in three or more consecutive seasons (NHL debut or otherwise) and first since Phil Kessel in three straight from 2009-10 to 2011-12. The franchise record for most consecutive seasons with 30 goals is eight, a mark set by Darryl Sittler from 1973-74 to 1980-81.

BIG LEAGUES: NTDP alumni Frank Vatrano was signed to a three year extension with the Florida Panthers. Vatrano has recorded a career-high 20 goals this season for the Panthers.

HOBEY BAKER: Seven NTDP alumni make up the 81 NCAA players named to the first round of voting for the 2019 Hobey Baker Award: Evan Barratt (2015-17), Casey Fitzgerald (2013-15), Adam Fox (2014-16), Quinn Hughes (2015-17), K’Andre Miller (2016-18), Josh Norris (2015-17), and Joseph Woll (2014-16). Of the 81 players named, the top 10 will be announced on Mar. 20, and the finalist named on Apr. 12.
