Jan. 12, 2019, U17s vs Central Illinois Flying Aces (SOW, 5-4)

The U.S. National Under-17 Team won both of its home games against the Central Illinois Flying Aces on Friday (Jan. 11) and Saturday (Jan. 12). In the first matchup of the series, the U17s earned a 1-0 victory after Owen Gallatin (Hugo, Minn) scored his first goal of the season with 5 minutes, 19 seconds remaining in the final frame. Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass) made 23 saves and recorded his first career shutout. It also marked the first USHL shutout for Team USA since April 2018.

The U17s collected a 5-4 shootout win against the Flying Aces in the second game of the series. Eamon Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.), Jacob Sanderson (Whitefish, Mont.), Matthew Beniers (Hingham, Mass.), and Brett Berard (E. Greenwich, R.I.) scored for the U17s in regulation. However, two quick goals at the end of the third period sent the game into overtime, and eventually to a shootout. Commesso stopped both shootout opportunities for the Flying Aces and made a total of 28 saves, while Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) scored the game-winner to give the U17s their fourth point of the weekend.
