The U.S. National Under-17 Team split a two-game series with the Tri-City Storm from Jan. 2-3. In the first matchup, the U17s earned a 5-4 victory in a shootout. Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) tallied two goals, while Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Hunter Strand (Anchorage, Alaska) scored one each. Tuch and Matthew Beniers (Hingham, Mass.) scored shootout goals, with Beniers’ goal sealing the victory. Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) made 29 saves in net.
The U17s dropped the second game of the series, 8-2. Beniers and Brett Berard (E. Greenwich, R.I.) scored for Team USA, while goaltenders Carter McPhail (Fenton, Mich.) and Hayden Hoover (Plain City, Ohio) combined to make 32 saves.
