The U.S. National Under-17 Team placed second in the 2018 Under-17 Four Nations Cup held at USA Hockey Arena. The U17s recorded three victories against international opponents Slovakia, Switzerland, and Russia, and entered the first-place game against Russia with a tournament-leading nine points.
The U17s lost 3-2 in overtime to Russia in the final game of Four Nations. Ty Smilanic (Elizabeth, Colo.) scored both of Team USA’s goals in the loss, both of which were scored on power plays. The game was decided in 3-on-3 overtime, and Russia’s Shakir Mukhamadullin ultimately scored a power play goal to win the game. Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) made 19 saves in the loss.
