The U.S. National Under-17 Team opened its past weekend slate with a 4-3 shootout loss Friday against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The RoughRiders scored twice in the opening period before Landon Slaggert's (South Bend, Ind.) second-period tally cut the deficit in half . Cedar Rapids took a 3-1 lead in the third period, only to be erased by two goals in a 35-second span from Brett Berard (E. Greenwich, R.I.) and Tyler Kleven (Fargo, N.D.). The U17s ultimately fell in a shootout, despite 22 saves from Noah Grannan (Germantown, Wis.).

The U17s fell 5-3 to the Chicago Steel on Saturday. Chicago took a 1-0 lead 15 seconds into the game. Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas), Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas, and Ty Smilanic (Elizabeth, Colo.) scored in the second period to tie the game, but the Steel added two more goals in the third to seal the win. Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) stopped 20 of 24 shots in net for Team USA.
