OVERTIME THRILLERS: Team USA won three straight USHL contests in three days last weekend, all in an overtime finish.

The U17s hosted Dubuque on Friday night and James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) bookended the scoring, opening the scoring less than five minutes into the game and ending the game with a one-timer from the right wing just over a minute into the 3-on-3 extra session.

The U18s used a Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) overtime winner with less than a minute to play in OT to take down Dubuque Saturday night, 4-3.

After their night off, the 17s hosted the Chicago Steel for a Sunday matinee and after the game was forced even late in regulation, Cole Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) took the puck off the opening draw and fired in from the left circle to give the 17s a 5-4 OT victory.

With the win, the Under-18 Team has now won six of nine games when playing more than 60 minutes this season.

The pair of wins for the U17s improved their record to 3-1 this year in extra time.

HATTY WATCH: After five multi-goal games and 10 contests with three-or-more points recorded, U18 forward Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) netted his first hat-trick of the season in the U18s' 4-3 overtime victory over Dubuque on Saturday night.

After assisting on Team USA's first goal of the evening, the Boston College commit collected his first score of the night just past the halfway mark of the game. Smith teamed up with current linemates Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Ryan Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) to complete a tic-tac-toe passing sequence on the doorstep.

He earned his second of the night to put Team USA ahead 3-2 in the middle period after he found the puck off a rebound from a Ryan Fine (Center Moriches, N.Y.) shot and potted the second chance.

Smith completed the three-goal night after he collected a loose puck that caromed off the end-boards in overtime and took it the length of the ice with Perreault on his flank. Smith, the #3 rated North American skater in NHL Central Scoutings' Midseason Update, took the shot and ended the game with his 28th score of the season.

On the year, Smith has 69 points (28g-41a) in 36 games to rank second on the team in scoring.

PUT THE WHISTLES AWAY:  Between the U17s game Friday night and the U18s game on Saturday agains the Fighting Saints, a whopping zero penalties were assessed across the two days.

The 120+ minutes of hockey without a penalty call marked the first time in NTDP history that no penalties were whistled in back-to-back games.

FIVE-FOUR: The U.S. National Under-17 National Team won both contests last weekend by a 5-4 final, extending their streak of games played with that exact score.

The two contests were the third and fourth straight games played at 5-4 after the U17s lost to Green Bay by that score on January 14 and topped the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 5-4, back on Friday, January 20.

Taking the stretch of games back to January 7, the U17s have finished five of their past six games in a 5-4 final.

Each of the past seven U17 games have been decided by one goal, with the U.S. earning a 3-4-0 record in those games. On the season, the U17s are 5-4-1 in one-goal finishes.
