U18s Skate Past Central Illinois, 4-1

Hughes and Wise record two points in win

The U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Central Illinois Flying Aces Friday night at USA Hockey Arena. Drew DeRidder (Fenton, Mich.) is now 10-0-0 in USHL after recording 25 saves in the win.

Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) opened scoring for the U18s. He skated it in and around Flying Aces goaltender Zach Stejskal at 3:36 of the first period. Jake Wise (Reading, Mass.) and Jack DeBoer (Madison, N.J.) picked up assists on the goal.

Highlights

Wise picked up his second point of the night sending a wrister into the back of the net on the power play at the 14:28 mark of the first. Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) and Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) picked up assists on the goal.

Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich.) gave the U18s a 3-0 lead, also on the power play, at 17:35 of the first period. Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) and Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) picked up the helpers on the play.

Cam York (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) picked up his first USHL goal of the season at 1:49 of the second period. He sent the puck in over the glove of the Flying Aces goaltender from the high slot. Hughes picked up his second assist of the game while Gavin Hain (Grand Rapids, Minn.) picked up his first.

The Flying Aces netted a goal at 18:37 of the third period for a final score of 4-1.

Central Illinois’ Zach Stejskal recorded 36 saves.

The U18s are back in action on Sunday (Feb. 25) at 3 p.m. ET as they play host to Youngstown Phantoms.
