U17s Defeat Fighting Saints, 7-4.

Knight makes 48 saves in win

The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 7-4 tonight at USA Hockey Arena behind a 48-save performance from Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.).

The Fighting Saints opened the scoring at 4:40 of the first period.

Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) rang the puck off the cross bar to nearly tie the game with 12:00 left in the first.

Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) found the back of the net first for the U17s at 8:45 of the first period. Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) picked up assists on the goal.

The U17s took its first lead of the game at 14:52 of the first as Patrick Moynihan redirected the puck past Dubuque’s Cole Weaver. Domenick Fensore (Thornwood, N.Y.) and Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) recorded the assists.

The Fighting Saints evened the game once again at the 15:28 mark of the first.

Team USA added two in the second period from Lindmark and Boldy.

Lindmark buried a rebound off of Michael Gildon’s (Plano, Texas) initial shot at 1:46 of the second period. Case McCarthy (Clarence Center, N.Y.) also added an assist one goal.

Boldy cleaned up his own rebound at 19:47 of the middle frame to give the U17s a 4-2 lead.

Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y.) extended the U17s lead, 5-2 after he put the puck in off the back of Dubuque’s Weaver at 1:45 of the final frame.

The Fighting Saints pulled within two at 2:25 of the third period.

Ryan Siedem (Madison, N.J.) netted his second goal of the season at 8:25 of the third period off a feed from Moynihan. Lindmark picked up his third point with an assist. 

NTDP alum Josh Maniscalco (2015-17) netted one for the Fighting Saints at 12:49 of the third.

John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) added an empty net goal at 17:46 of the third period for a final score of 7-4. Knight picked up his first career assist on the goal.

Knight made 48 saves while Dubuque’s Weaver made 18 saves.

The U17s are back in action tomorrow night (Jan. 27) in Muskegon to take on the Lumberjacks at 7:15 pm ET.
