U18s Defeat the Johnnies 6-1

Bode Wilde tallies two goals and an assist to lead Team USA to victory

Bode Wilde (Birmingham, Mich.) led the U.S. National Under-18 team to victory, 6-1, over the Saint John’s University Johnnies, with two goals and an assist for a three-point night. Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) extended his point streak to nine games with three assists.

With the victory, the U18s’ record against collegiate opponents is 5-8-0 (W-L-T).

The U18s struck first with a goal from Wilde at 14:33 in the first. Wilde walked the blue line with the puck and fired it into the net with a shot from the point. K’Andre Miller (Minnetonka, Minn.) assisted on the goal.

Wilde scored his second of the game at 7:44 of the second to make it 2-0. Wilde scored top-shelf from the left circle after a cross-ice pass from Hughes. Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) tallied an assist on the goal.

The Johnnies scored at 15:32 in the second with a goal from Ryan Kero to make it 2-1.

The U18s made it 3-1 with a power-play goal from Wahlstrom at 4:44 in the third. He scored with a slapshot off a pass from Hughes. Wilde also tallied an assist on the goal.

At 9:37 of the third, Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a one-timer from the top of the right circle off a feed from Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich.). Ty Emberson (Eau Claire, Wis.) also assisted on the goal.

Gavin Hain (Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored for Team USA at 10:25 in the third to make it 5-1. Jake Pivonka (Naperville, Ill.) and DJ King (Northport, N.Y.) tallied assists on the goal.

Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) scored Team USA’s sixth goal on the night at 13:01 in the third. Wahlstrom and Hughes assisted on the goal.

Jonathan Mor (Highland Park, Ill.) made 16 saves on the night.

The U18s outshot the Johnnies 43 to 17. They went 2 for 7 on the power-play and were perfect on the penalty kill.

The U18s travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on Minnesota State University tomorrow night, Saturday (Jan. 27) at 7:00 p.m. CST in their last NCAA game of the season.
