Zegras nets two in the win

The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede, 6-3 tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

Marshall Warren (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) sent a wrist shot from the right circle into the far corner of the Sioux Falls net at 1:42 of the first period, giving the U17s a 1-0 lead. Ryan Siedem (Madison, N.J.) and John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) picked up assists on the goal.

The Stampede tied the game, 1-1 at 12:09 of the first.

Trevor Zegras  (Bedford, N.Y.) regained the Under-17 Team’s lead at 16:55 of the first tapping the puck in off a feed from Domenick Fensore (Thornwood, N.Y.). Judd Caulfield (Grand Forks, N.D.) also added an assist.

Skater Leaders

Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) made it a 3-1 game at 1:13 of the second period netting a backhanded pass from Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.). Michael Gildon (Plano, Texas) also added an assist on the goal.

Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) netted his fifteenth USHL goal of the season at 10:26 of the middle frame. Gildon and Fensore both recorded their second points of the night with the assists.

Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) sent a cross-crease pass to Zegras, who netted his second of the night at the 19:24 mark of the second period. Warren picked up his second point of the night with an assist.

Sioux Falls netted a power play goal at 2:14 of the third period.

Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) sent the puck in from the right circle with help from Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) and Drew Helleson (Farmington, Minn.) at 10:41 of the third period.

Sioux Falls netted the final goal at 14:28 to make it, 6-3.

Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) tallied 35 saves for the Under-17 Team in the win. Sioux Falls’ Mikhail Berdin and Jaxson Stauber combined for 29 saves.

The Under-17 Team’s Star Wars jerseys can be bid on at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Auction where all the proceeds will go to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The U17s are back in action Friday (Jan. 26) at USA Hockey Arena when they play host to the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Puck drops at 7 p.m. ET and tickets can be found at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
