NTDP alums secure win for Spartans

The U.S. National Under-18 Team fell, 3-0 to the Michigan State Spartans Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena.

Oliver Walhstrom (Quincy, Mass.) nearly got the U18s on the board with five minutes left in the first when he sent the puck off the far goal post.

Michigan State had a near-miss chance of its own in the second period when the Spartans’ shot rang off the post and goaltender Drew DeRidder’s (Fenton, Mich.) back. Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhees, N.J.) made the play to keep the puck out and the game scoreless.

Skater Leaders

NTDP alum, Patrick Khodorenko (2014-16) netted a power play goal for the Spartans at 7:23 of the second period to put MSU up, 1-0.

The Spartans netted another power play goal at 17:01 of the third to extend its lead, 2-0.

Khodorenko netted an empty net goal to secure the 3-0 win for the Spartans.

Michigan State commit, DeRidder finished the night with 19 saves while NTDP alum, Ed Minney (2012-14) earned the shutout with 20 saves.
