U17s defeat Austin Bruins, 4-3 in NAHL Showcase

Caufield nets two in NAHL showcase win

The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Austin Bruins, 4-3 in its first game of the NAHL Showcase Friday night in Blaine, Minnesota.

The Bruins opened the scoring at 4:57 of the first period sending the puck into the net after winning the face-off.

Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) opened the scoring for the U17s at 5:42 of the first frame. Sean Farrell (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up an assist on the goal.

Caufield tallied his second goal of the game, and put the U17s on top, at 10:05 of the first period on the power play. Farrell picked up his second assist of the game.  Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) also picked up an assist on the goal.

The Bruins tied the game at two at 11:42 of the opening period.

Farrell retook the U17s lead at 7:07 of the second period. Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) added the lone assist on the power-play goal.

Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) scored the eventual game-winner at 9:31 of the middle frame with assists coming from Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) and Cam York (Anaheim Hills, Calif.).

Austin notched one at 13:00 of the second period to pull within one.

U17 goaltenders Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) and Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) split time in the win against Austin. They combined for 18 saves on the night.

The U17s are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, September 23, at the NAHL showcase as they take on the Minnesota Magicians at 7:45 pm ET.
