U18s Earn Shootout Victory in USHL Finale

Wahlstrom scores in regulation and shootout to fuel 3-2 victory against Muskegon

The U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Muskegon Lumberjacks 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night at L.C. Walker Arena to conclude their participation in the 2016-17 United States Hockey League schedule.

With the victory, the U18s finish the regular season with an overall record of 34-20-3 (W-L-OTL).

Muskegon jumped on the board early with a short-handed goal at the 2:37 mark of the first period.

Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) opened tied the game with only nine seconds remaining in the first period on an unassisted tally.

Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) gave the U18s a 2-1 lead at the 12:26 mark of the second period when he buried a feed from David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.). Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) also picked up an assist on the play.

Muskegon tallied at the 15:20 mark of the third period to force overtime. Where neither team was able to break the tie.

Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) and Wahlstrom tallied for Team USA in their first two attempts while Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) shut down Andrei Svechnikov and Collin Adams to give Team USA the 3-2 victory.

St. Cyr finished with 25 saves on 27 shots to earn his 25th victory of the season and 14th USHL victory.

This marks the final game for the U18s during the regular season. The team will now prepare for the 2017 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship in Slovakia starting April 13.
