Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich.) scored the only goal for the U.S. National Under-17 Team in a 4-1 loss to the Bloomington Thunder tonight.
Alec Mehr gave Bloomington a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 6:51, the only marker of the first period.
The Thunder doubled their lead 3:02 into the middle frame before Gruden converted to bring the score to 2-1 with 4:15 remaining. Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) and Jake Goldowski (Thornhurst, Pa.) picked up assists on the play.
Just 2:01 later, Bloomington took back the two-goal lead with a tally from Vladislav Dzhioshvili.
Bloomington's Brady Smith capped the scoring at 17:33 of the third period for the 4-1 U.S. loss.
Keegan Karki (Sartell, Minn.) stopped 34 shots in net for Team USA, while Logan Halladay made 19 saves for the Thunder.
