Farabee's Natural Hat-Trick Fuels U18s Victory Against Waterloo, 8-3

Farabee netted a natural hat-trick and six players had multiple points in the U18s 8-3 victory

Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) netted a natural hat-trick and six players had multiple points as the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks 8-3 on Saturday evening at USA Hockey Arena.

Waterloo struck first at 5:53 of the first period on Sam Cragg’s shot from the left circle.

At 15:05 of the first period, with Waterloo’s goaltender Pete Thome out of position, Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) tied the game at one, sending a shot from the left circle into the open net. Farabee and Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.)  picked up assists on the power play goal.

Waterloo took the lead again a minute later.

At 17:35 of the first period, Michael Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) scored a one-timer off the centering pass from Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa) to tie the game at two. Tommy Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) also added an assist.

At 5:36 of the second period the Black Hawks netted a shorthanded goal.

The U18s tied the game yet again on the power play at 12:12 of the second period after Farabee cleaned up Hughes’s shot from the blue line. Norris picked up his second point of the night as well adding an assist on the goal.

Farabee gave the U18s their first lead of the game, and the eventual game-winner, at 14:34 of the second period on a breakaway, sending a wrister past the glove of Waterloo’s Thome.

Just 4:47 after his first goal, Farabee netted his first career NTDP hat-trick at 16:59 of the second period. Norris picked up his third assist of the night and Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) added the secondary assist.

At 19:17 of the second period Sean Dhooghe extended the U18s lead, 6-3, burying a centering pass from Barratt.

Gildon added a power play goal at 4:42 of the third period. Mismash tallied his second assist of the game.

Less than a minute later at 5:33, Norris sent the puck to the back of the net from the left circle. Mismash had the helper once again. David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.) added the secondary assist.

Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) ended the night with 23 saves.

The U18s return to action next weekend when they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for matchups with the Stars on Friday (Mar. 10) and Saturday (Mar. 11) at 8:35 p.m. ET. Team USA returns to USA Hockey Arena the following weekend (Mar. 17-18) for a series with the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Notes: Farabee notched six points in his last four periods of play ... Mismash extends his USHL-leading point streak to nine games ... Six USA players including Farabee, Norris, Mismash, Hughes, Gildon and Barratt had a multiple points in the win.
