Brady Tkachuk scored twice for Team USA in its 5-3 defeat of Arizona State University on Friday at USA Hockey Arena.

Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) scored a pair of goals for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in its 5-3 victory against Arizona State University on Friday evening at USA Hockey Arena.

Team USA is now on an eight-game winning streak and is 27-17-2-0 overall and 7-8-1 against NCAA opponents on the season.

Tkachuk opened the scoring early on a set draw play. Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) won the faceoff back to Nate Knoepke (Farmington, Minn.), who saucered a pass to Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) along the sideboards. Tkachuk finished the play after wristing a shot from the slot through traffic off the feed from Wahlstrom.

The Sun Devils added a late first period goal to tie the game heading into the first intermission.

Tkachuk didn’t waste any time giving Team USA the lead in the second period.  Tkachuk split the defense after receiving a long stretch pass from Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) at the one-minute mark. He finished the play by deking to his backhand and burying a goal over the outstretched glove of ASU goaltender Joey Daccord.

Norris widened the lead to 3-1 just 59 seconds later after sliding a backhand shot past Daccord on a rush play that was set up by Wahlstrom’s backhand cross-ice pass. Knoepke picked up his second assist of the night after sending a three-line pass to Wahlstrom.

Joey Cassetti (Pleasanton, Calif.) gave Team USA a three-goal lead after burying a rebound opportunity. Tommy Miller (Bloomfield, Mich.) and Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) picked up assists on the play.

Arizona State added another tally late in the second period to make the score 4-2 heading into the second intermission.

Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) scored at the 1:46 mark of the third period to regain the three-goal advantage for Team USA. Farabee streaked down the boards and fired a shot high short-side after gathering a pass from David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.). Dhooghe picked up his second assist on the play after winning the defensive-zone faceoff back to Farrance.

The Sun Devils added a goal midway through the third period to bring the game to its final score of 5-3.

Team USA goaltender Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) made 26 stops on 29 shots to earn his seventh victory of the season and third against NCAA competition.

Team USA and the Sun Devils square off again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET at USA Hockey Arena to conclude the series. Tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
