Pivonka, Farabee Score for Team USA

Jake Pivonka (Woodridge, Ill.) and Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) each scored for the U.S. National Under-17 Team, but the U.S. fell to the Chicago Steel, 6-2, here tonight at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

Chicago jumped out to an early lead when Mitch Lewandowski found the back of the net at 7:40. The U.S. was awarded the first power play of the game minutes later, but couldn't tie it up.

The Steel added another to send the game into the second period at 2-0.

Chicago scored three more goals in the first half of the middle frame to make it 5-0.

With 3:24 remaining in the stanza, Pivonka converted to put Team USA on the board. Patrick Giles (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) picked up assists on the play.

Farabee connected with Ty Emberson (Eau Claire, Wis.) at 5:09 of the third to cut Chicago's lead to 5-2, but the Steel scored in the closing minutes for the 6-2 final.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team returns to action with an afternoon game against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 2 p.m. ET Monday (Jan. 16) at USA Hockey Arena. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to skate with the team after the game.
