Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) added a pair of goals for the U.S. National Under-17 Team, but the U.S. fell short to the Chicago Steel, 8-3, on Friday night at USA Hockey Arena.

Chicago opened the scoring with four straight goals in the first period. With just under five minutes left in the first, Oliver Wahlstrom (Quincy, Mass.) slid the puck to Farabee, who slammed a goal into the bottom corner of the net. The teams ended the first period with Chicago leading, 4-1.

At the 1:00 mark of the second period, Farabee netted his second goal of the night with assists from Jake Wise (North Andover, Mass.) and Wahlstom. In the final minutes of the second, Chicago found the back of Team USA’s net, only to have the goal called off for goaltender interference.

Despite the back and forth action, neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the period.

Chicago scored early in the third, widening their lead to 5-2. Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhees, N.J.) responded soon after by scoring his third goal of the season with assists from Jack DeBoer (Madison, N.J.) and Blade Jenkins (Jackson, Mich.).

Three more more goals from the Steel put the the U.S. down, 8-3. A power play opportunity presented itself towards the end of the period after a holding call on Chicago. The U17s worked worked the puck around the offensive zone, but couldn’t grasp another goal.

The Under-17 Team will take on the Youngstown Phantoms at 7 p.m. ET tomorrow at USA Hockey Arena.

1. CHI - R. Lutz
2. USA - J. Farabee
