U.S. Scores Four Goals in Third To Secure Win

The U.S. National Under-18 Team was trailing to start the final period but scored four times in the third to top Trinity College, 6-3, in a matinee showdown here today.

Trinity opened the scoring just 1:02 into the game, but a redirection by Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) off a blast from the point by Tommy Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) less than two minutes later evened the game at 1-1.

Team USA had an opportunity to pull ahead with a power-play chance at 3:29 and the U.S. held the play in the Bantams zone during offsetting minors at 6:09, but the game went into the second knotted at a score apiece.

Midway through the middle frame at 10:32, Norris slid the puck from the top of the left circle to Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) on the right side, who tapped it in to make it 2-1.

Trinity took a quick lead with a pair of goals less than a minute apart off odd-man rushes at 16:42 and 17:24 to send the game into the third with the U.S. down 3-2.

Michael Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) tipped in a shot by Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) from the point on the first play after Trinity College was whistled for elbowing 1:01 into the period. Just 6:29 later, Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) chased a dumped puck below the goal line and tipped a backhanded pass to Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) for the eventual game-winner.

In the final three minutes, Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) and Randy Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) each added goals to account for the 6-3 win.

Goaltender Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) made 22 saves to extend the U.S. National Under-18 Team’s winning streak to five games.

1. Josh Norris (one goal, three assists)
2. Michael Pastujov (one goal, one assist)
3. Max Gildon (two assists)
