Logan Cockerill Records Hat Trick

Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.) led the U.S. National Under-18 Team with a hat trick performance as the U.S. topped Adrian College, 8-3, here tonight at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Michigan.

Adrian took a 2-0 lead in the opening 8:07 of play, but Team USA responded with a pair of goals just 1:03 apart from Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) and Cockerill to knot the game at 2-2 heading into the second frame.

Cockerill added his second of the game at 8:18 of the second period to give the U.S. its first lead of the night.

Team USA scored a pair of goals 2:43 apart when Randy Hernandez (Miami Fla.) forced a turnover in front of Adrian goaltender Kevin Entmaa and tucked in a backhand. Shortly after, Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) found the net with a shot through traffic from the left hashmark to give the U.S. a 5-2 lead.

At 15:26, Cory Dunn converted on an Adrian College power play to shorten Team USA's lead, but David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.) scored with 1:23 on the clock during a U.S. power play to make it 6-3 heading into the final period.

Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) fired a shot from the left circle at 18:27 of the third frame and Cockerill completed his hat trick with Team USA's fourth power-play goal of night with :10 remaining.

NOTES: The U.S. National Under-18 Team outshot Adrian College, 32-28 ... U.S. goaltender Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) made 25 saves in the win.
