The U.S. National Under-18 Team fought back from one-goal deficits twice but couldn't overcome No. 13-ranked Harvard University as the U.S. fell, 5-2, here tonight at Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Boston.
At 2:42 of the first period, Harvard took the lead with a goal by Ryan Donato, assisted by NTDP alum Adam Fox (2014-16).
Nate Knoepke (Farmington, Minn.) tied the game when he netted a shot from the top of the left circle on a Team USA power play at 9:25. However, the Crimson retook the lead exactly a minute later on a goal by Alexander Kerfoot. Fox also added his second assist of the night.
Team USA made it 2-2 after Randy Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) batted in a loose puck right outside the Harvard crease 3:16 into the second period. Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) and Tyler Inamoto (Barrington, Ill.) added assists on the play.
Just more than two minutes later, at 5:35, Harvard's Clay Anderson put the Crimson up 3-2 with a power-play marker into the lower right corner of the net.
At 3:21 of the final period, a redirected puck slipped into the Team USA net to extend Harvard's lead to 4-2. Another goal at 8:22 accounted for the 5-2 final.
Fox finished with four assists.
