Matchup Preview

TACKLING THE TERRIERS: Thursday night will mark the eighth all-time meeting between the U.S. National Under-18 Team and Boston University. The two teams last met on October 16, 2015, where Team USA earned a 7-4 win against the Terriers. In that game, current Terrier freshmen Kieffer Bellows and Clayton Keller each recorded three-point games and Jake Oettinger made 41 saves for the U.S.

Three members of the U18s are committed to play hockey at Boston University: Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.), David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.) and Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.). Additionally, eight players on Boston University’s roster are alumni of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, including Kieffer Bellows, Jordan Greenway, Clayton Keller, Chad Krys, John MacLeod, Charlie McAvoy, Jake Oettinger and Nikolas Olsson. Head coach David Quinn previously spent two seasons (2002-04) as head coach for the NTDP. In that time, he guided the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a 35-26-8 regular-season record and a 16-7-1 mark in international play.

IVY LEAGUE MATCHUP: Saturday night’s game will be the fifth time the U.S. National Under-18 Team and Harvard University face off, and the first time since Nov. 9, 2008. In that meeting, the U.S. shut out the Crimson, 4-0.

MATCHUP WITH THE BUCS: The U17s welcome the Des Moines Buccaneers to the confines of USA Hockey Arena for 7 p.m. ET puck drops Friday and Saturday. This marks the second half of a four game homestand for the Under-17 Team before they travel to New Hope, Minnnesota, next week for matchups with the Minnesota Elite League.

Des Moines comes into the weekend leading the United States Hockey League's Western Conference with five points through three games and a record of 2-0-0-1.

These two games mark the only two matchups between the NTDP and Des Moines this season.

Sunday, Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.) tallied the lone Team USA goal for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in its 5-1 loss to the University of Notre Dame at Compton Family Ice Arena.

Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) stopped 32 of the 37 shots.

U17 LAST TIME OUT: The U17s completed their first half of a four game homestand when they welcomed the Youngstown Phantoms to USA Hockey Arena for games on Friday and Saturday. Team USA fell to the Phantoms 6-1 and 7-1 respectively. Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhess, N.J.) and Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich.) picked up goals on the weekend.

FARABEE LEADS ROOKIE SCORING: Through his first three USHL regular season games, Under-17 forward Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.) leads all USHL rookies in scoring. He has tallied two goals and added three assists in three contests. Going into the weekend, Farabee is only one point behind USHL scoring leader, Austin Albrecht of Sioux Falls.

FIVE NATIONS COMING TO USA HOCKEY ARENA: The 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament will feature some of the top under-18 hockey players in the world and will be hosted by USA Hockey from Nov. 1-5 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. The tournament includes the U.S. National Under-18 Team, as well as teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland.

Each team will compete in four games, with points awarded for wins (3), overtime wins (2) and overtime losses (1). The first-place team will be determined based on final point standings.
